July 21, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Thanks to Audrey Adams for her creation along with photo credits to Gerry Beetham

with Carol Marcy and Andrea Higgins
Fridays, July 21, 28
10:00 – 11:00 am

At Sylvan Gardens (Classes will be moved inside to the Center for the Spiritual Journey in the case of rain.)

Class fee is $40 per child for all three classes with a minimum of 4 children / $15 per child per session. Caregivers come free.

Each class will involve activities at Sylvan Gardens, a nature sanctuary in Chatham.  These activities will be things like learning to walk mindfully, becoming aware of the body, the senses and our connection to nature.  Children (and adults) will be encouraged with guidance to move and dance out their experiences.  Other activities will work with poetry, where each child puts words to their experience or adds a line to create a group poem or story.  We will be doing body drawings and then gluing things like grasses, pinecones, etc onto the body drawing helping them to see themselves as part of nature.  The purpose of these classes is to invite children into a living engaged experience with nature which will also help them develop more body awareness and connectedness with Earth.  They will have fun bringing their creative selves into the process while connecting with other children and participating adults.

Andrea Higgins is a certified Field Naturalist and has been leading walks with the Harwich Conservation Trust since fall 2021. She received a Kripalu Mindful Outdoor Guide Certification in 2019 and has Level 1 & 2 Wildlife Tracking certifications. Andrea is CPR and Wilderness First Aid Certified. She has been a Teacher Naturalist with Audubon since 2012 and a Naturalist and program leader with the Town of Barnstable since 2014, where she leads Outdoor Adventures. Andreacapecod@gmail.com
